There are many different film festivals all over the worl, however Venice Film Festival is perhaps the oldest and was initially started in 1932. Every year the festival is held there, either in the latter half of August or in early September. You will find that it is held at Lido di Venezia Palazzo del Cinema which is very historic. It's certainly a grand and elegant affair and will certainly not disapoint.
The most prestigious award is called Leone d'Oro, which in English means Golden Lion. However a more recent award has been given out called the San Marco Award. The best film in controcorrente section will be given this award. In addition to the film festival taking place, you will also find that there is the Venice Biennale which is an amazing festival celebrating modern art.
There are many different sections to the festival with both short and official feature film competitions. You will also find that there are programs for best videos and new entrants. There are a number of prizes up for grabs for instance The Jury's Grand Prize, the Special Award (for best directors), The Golden Lion (for best film), Coppa Volpi Award (for best actor and actress), Marcello Mastroianni award (for best emerging actor or actress).
Over the years, all the top movie stars and members of the media have appeared at the festival however it is perhaps considered second to the Cannes Festival held in France. If you are planning a trip to Italy whilst the festival is being held, it might be worth the journey to check it out if you are a film buff.

Of course, you will want to use a film projector in order to show reels of film on a screen so that you can enjoy it. The projectors need to be able to wind and unwind the reels of film in addition to ajusting the arms and the distance. Although there is plenty of competition from video projection, plenty of people are still wanting to make use of film projectors.
The people who make use of them include film festivals, schools, universtities plus residences. You can get machines wich allow you to play 8mm, 16mm and 36mm widths of film. What kind of projector you get really is dependant on how much space you have plus how many people are in the audience. By and large you will find that it is film festivals who use 35mm film whilst smaller organizations will typically use 8mm and 16mm.
You can actually rent film projectors and often the rental companies are run by universities. The demand is normally fluctating throughout the year depending on when the film festivals occur.
If you are looking to rent one of these units then it can really depend on the kind of film you are wanting to show. However you can expect to pay in the region of $20 to $50 per day. Of course, there are other accessories you will likely want to hire too such as a screen. If you are a student you will probably get a discount if renting from your university campus.
There's plenty of competition from a number of different places. As mentioned there is video projectors however there's also DLP plus A/V storage media. This is starting to make film obsolete. The film projectors don't have a number of features such as brightness and contrast control. Many cinemas are actually starting to use digital projectors which is making it very difficult for companies who make film prohectors.
